Deanna Haunsperger is a professor of mathematics at Carleton College in Minnesota, where she has taught since 1994. She received her BA from Simpson College, and MA and PhD from Northwestern University. Since her own undergraduate days, Deanna has been interested in increasing the number of students who pursue advanced degrees in mathematics, in particular those from underrepresented groups. That passion has guided her as a former co-editor for Math Horizons (the Mathematical Association of America (MAA)’s magazine for undergraduates) and as co-founder and co-director of Carleton's Summer Mathematics Program for Women, which was named by the American Mathematical Society as one of the two 2014 "Mathematics Programs that Make a Difference." She has served as the Second Vice President of the MAA, chaired the MAA’s Strategic Planning Committee on Students, and is currently chairing both the MAA's Centennial Planning Committee and the MAA's Council on Outreach. She received the 2012 M. Gweneth Humphreys Award for Mentoring Undergraduate Women from the Association for Women in Mathematics. She was recently elected to serve as the 57th President of the Mathematical Association of America, 2017–18. |
