| During the last 20 years or so there has been remarkable developments in the mathematical theory of inverse problems (IP). One of the main objectives of the PASI on IP Workshop will be to bring many of these developments to advanced graduates students, postdocs and other scientists in the Americas interested in IP and its applications. Emphasis will also be made on the open problems in the field. Another important objective of the PASI on IP Workshop is to foster international cooperation throughout the Americas by bringing different areas of expertise in the field of IP together in one event. The main three areas of focus of PASI will be computer tomography, inverse boundary value problems and inverse scattering problems. The plan is to have every day of the Institute three minicourses of 1 hour to give ample time for discussion sessions. The following distinguished researchers have agreed to give minicourses in the PASI workshop: Maarten V. de Hoop(Colorado School of Mines): The impact of microlocal analysis on exploration seismology Adel Faridani (Oregon State University): Mathematical Problems in Computed Tomography Clifford Nolan (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute): TBA Gunther Uhlmann (University of Washington): Electrical Impedance Tomography Ricardo Weder (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico): The time-dependent approach to inverse scattering Jorge Zubelli (IMPA, Brazil): Tomography in the presence of diffusion and scattering Please note that eligibility for funding support for this workshop only is limited to researchers from the Americas (Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Central and South American states). Others are welcome to attend, but will not be eligible for funding support. The Pan-American Advanced Study Institute is funded by the National Science Foundation. Group photo of participants |
